Today’s Yin Yoga practice is for all of you out there who need a deep upper body stretch – focusing on the shoulders, upper back, side body and chest. This was a special request from some golfers and swimmers to help prepare their bodies for sports and/or post sports to help with faster recovery and tension release but it can be beneficial to all of us who feel imbalance either through our work or life.
We look at each side separately to help elongate and open the sides equally for those who use one side of their bodies more (like golfers and swimmers) and need some balance! Enjoy!
Props: 2 blankets (optional) OR beach towels (or pick up one here:
and 1 block or stack of books (or pick some up here:
Meridians: Bladder, Heart, Lung, Gallbladder, Pericardium
In Yin Yoga we hold poses passively without muscle engagement to mobilize and strengthen the connective tissue, joints, ligaments and bones. We hold these poses for 1-8 minutes and while this can be challenging at times, try to settle in, breath and commit to the stillness. Always connect with your body and breath and come into the pose slowly, to approximately 2/3 of your maximum depth, being mindfully aware of all the sensations.
