Today we restore the headlights on this 2004 Mk5 Golf.
They were very faded and yellow.
The process and materials you will need are as followed:
Use 1500 grit sand paper to take the top layer of weathering and yellowness off the headlight. When your sanding with the 1500 grit be sure to go over your work at least 2-3 times as you will miss parts on the first going over!
Then onto your 2000 grit to take the 1500 scratches out and get your headlights ready for buffing! When sanding with the 2000 grit, your not really going to be able to necessarily see any change but this process is very important, so again I suggest going over your work 2-3 times, in actual time you should be sanding for at least 5 minutes per grit!
We then move onto 3m’s Green top compound, which anyone who likes tinkering with cars I suggest you buy some. You will be able to find it in any car product shop or if not any medium compound will actually do! Either apply the compound directly to the pad or rub it all over the headlight with your finger ( YOUR PREFERENCE).
BE SURE TO MASK UP YOUR WORK AREA, AS BUFFERS CAN BE VERY DEADLY ON PAINTED AREAS!!!!
If you follow the steps I’ve shown you, you can’t go wrong!
