Men's Golf is Looking for More in 2018

EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men’s golf team is going through one of its best stretches of golf in program history but that is not enough as UTRGV looks for bigger things in 2018.

UTRGV has seen its rankings, according to golfstat.com, reach to 154th in the country and that is an improvement of more than 50 spots since the beginning of the fall semester.

UTRGV also scratched off one of its goals this season, which was to finish first as a team in a tournament. In fact, after winning the Atchafalaya Intercollegiate in February, UTRGV won another tournament this week in the Big Texan Invitational and that has its own historic meaning. With its second team victory of the season, it is only the second time in program history that UTRGV has won two tournaments in one season, with the last coming in 2010.

Higher rankings and winning regular season tournaments are great accomplishments in and of themselves but for UTRGV there is still more to accomplish. Each and every one of the members of the squad have their eyes set on the Western Athletic Conference Championship and they believe they can win it this year.

It has been a process for UTRGV since UTRGV head coach Philip Tate took over the program and they are following that process to the letter. There are big things on the horizon for UTRGV and that just means the hard work is paying off.
